Future-proofing mobile payments
In Norway, peer-to-peer payments have become gradually synonymous with the mobile payment app Vipps. As the service kept growing at a fast pace, the original app’s UI and functionality couldn’t keep up with their ambitious vision and the increasing demands of its users. In 2018, we partnered with them to work on crucial design improvements, all while keeping it familiar to the many users of the popular app.
We made the navigation simpler, removed unnecessary functionalities, and made the app follow the Universal Design guidelines—making it an accessible experience for everyone. We also cleaned up the underlying code to improve overall performance, wrote and enhanced over 6.000 words of microcopy, and packaged everything in a sustainable and scalable design system. This way, Vipps’ personality remains consistent in both language and design.
The new app launched in 2018 and currently has around 4 million active users, which translates to 75% of the Norwegian population.
